I just made a note explaining how I feel Substack can be a healthy “scroll” when it comes to using social apps. This was on my timeline and proves my point. Read this, resonated with me completely and I am better off for it.

I then went to see someone else’s note saying if you enjoyed something you should let them know. So here I am saying this was great and thank you.

Thanks for letting me know Marc! Appreciate it and happy to hear the post resonates. I think the main differences in the scroll for me are 1 not video dominated (so less hooky and additive) and 2 no ads.

This resonates with me. I wrote a piece on something similar recently. Feel free to check it out:

I really enjoyed this Matilda, thank you. We also seem to share a profile pic penchant for striped tees.

Lots of truth in here, but I need to gently push back on the notion that "the internet is a tool, not a destination. It’s up to us how we use the tool."

That is exactly what the owners of these enshittified platforms *want* us to believe — that their platforms are simply neutral "tools" and that any problematic use is our fault, not theirs.

But there are thousands of designers, developers, researchers, and cognitive scientists on the other side of our screens using everything they know about neuroscience, behavioral economics and UX heuristics to make sure we are unable to look away. No tool is neutral. Every tool has been designed to accommodate and encourage certain kinds of behaviors. Social media is no different, except that in its case they are designing for behaviors that are explicitly in their interests, not ours.

Thanks for your push back! Appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I actually totally agree with you when it comes to social media. In that sentence I was referring to the internet in general as a tool as in we can choose which platforms we do and don’t use (including socials).

Thank you for this. I have large followings on Linkedin under my actual professional name and last couple months got fed up with the constant chasing algorithms and need to be relevant in someone else's space. Doubling down on building capacity through my website, podcast and newsletters so this is to timely. Continue to inspire.

I love the puzzle piece approach 🧩 such a useful metaphor for times when confidence is low and it all feels a bit “much”. And YES to days spent in art galleries as a KPI 🤤
